Description
Taken from my home in Pennsylvania, this shot depicts the Eastern Veil Nebula. The red color is a gas called Hydrogen Alpha, and the blue is Oxygen III. These gases reflect light at certain wavelengths that, with filters, will appear red or blue to our cameras. This particular nebula is the remnant of a supernova, so millions of years ago this area used to be home to a very large star, now all we see is its corpse.
